Robert Moore is working towards establishing an effective tenants and residents' network. He aims to increase the contribution that tenants and residents make, and boost the input required to bring about the changes.
So Robert, how did you become involved in the Network?
On one of my visits to the Town Hall I went to the table that has pamphlets and noticed one about the Network. The work of the GCN sounded really interesting so I took the brochure home and completed a section to register my interest in becoming a representative. I took this along to a meeting I went to with London and Quadrant, and a member of staff signed my nomination form.
What are your main interests in your work?
It is very important to me that tenants' issues are taken into account in local decision making. Having been a Greenwich Council tenant for some years and then nominated to London and Quadrant Housing Trust and being involved with their forum, I felt there was more that I would like to do to make tenants' issues known in the community.
What groups or official bodies are you involved in?
- Panel Member London and Quadrant South East Area Tenants Forum
- Mentor London and Quadrant (residents on Line)
- Parent Governor Post 16 Campus Shooters Hill
- Greenwich Community Learning Champion
- Panel Member Neighbourhood Renewal Greenwich (Greater Woolwich)
- Neighborhood Renewal Sub-Committee
- Neighborhood Renewal Tenants Appraisal Panel (Employment)
- Member Diversity Board
What have been some of your highlights so far?
Perhaps not so much a highlight but something I really enjoyed was a radio broadcast from the Ferrier Estate about the regeneration as I was able to speak from personal experience. I had lived on the Cardwell Estate which had previously been redeveloped.
What are you looking forward to in the future?
Neighborhood Renewal will be coming to an end in a couple years but hopefully I will keep going on for some time yet and continue to work with community groups. I am also thinking about doing some voluntary gardening work.
What role do you feel the Greenwich Community Network can play in the borough?
I feel that local people should have a say about local issues and the GCN is one way of making the public views known.
